Report on Competition 8 - Sunday 27 Nov 11
With the forecast not promising favourable conditions it was an early start for the Judge and a handful of members who showed up on Sunday morning. It was quickly evident that for once the forecast was accurate and safety being the better part of valour the Competition was cancelled due to the conditions. The conditions eased during the day and by late afternoon a number of members proceeded out and caught some good fish with all having no problems in reaching their bag limits.

Report on Competition 5 - Sunday 23 Oct 11
The largest turn out in a number of years saw 40 Club members compete in the Mixed Bag Competition from 5:30 AM through 10:00 AM.
Everyone got a ride with boat owners turning up in numbers. It was certainly busy launching and retrieving all the boats and thanks to everyone for assisting each other. It was also pleasing to see a few of our country members turning up to compete.
With the red light flashing, motors were thrown into gear and the boats scattered across the bay. The conditions were the best so far this season with calm seas and a little gentle northerly breeze.
A good weigh in followed the competition with predominately Snapper being the catch of day. The highlights were Peter O’Neill’s gummy shark and John Merlino’s Snapper that weighed in at 5.88KG – a beautiful fish. John and Vince Merlino had bagged out and were back in by 7:30 AM – while most members chose to get the most out of the competition by fishing up until the finish, some hopeful of getting a decent bite let alone catching something to weigh in.
The results on the day were Peter O’Neill 3rd, Vince Merlino 2nd and the winner with 8.10kg weighed in – John Merlino.
Thanks to Laurie Attard for taking charge of the BBQ and ensuring everyone got a feed and Shane McNamara for organising the food.

Report for Competition Four - Sunday 16 Oct 2011
The weather forecast was not looking good and probably the reason a few stayed away. Expectations were not high as members started arriving prior to sign on. The wind was blowing strongly from the west yet the waves and swell were not as bad as expected. Peering into the darkness it was hard to work out how rough it was.
Eventually with everyone signed on and the boats in the water a few crew reallocations were required to ensure everyone had a ride, plus both club boats were used.
Most elected to stay close in to shore should conditions worsen but it only got worse just after 9:00 AM.
Conrad Greer was happy to be back on solid ground after his eventful morning in the club boat and was seen kissing the concrete outside the club.
The fish were few and far between but what was weighed in was quality with Rob Monteau counting his chickens early with his Snapper and flathead over Murray Holland’s Snapper of 2.25 kg however it was John Alridge who presented a nice 3.5 kg Snapper that won the competition.

Competition No3 Judges Report.
Being the first bay competition for the season the competition ran very smoothly.
The competition was described as like being in a washing machine, the fishing was very poor with only two members weighing in. The overall results were Shane in first place and Rob in second place. It is worthy of watching these two as they have their own private completion, consistently trying to find ways of disqualifying each other. Overall the members enjoyed the competition regardless of conditions.

WNAC Competition number 2 Report
As planned we got off to an early start on Sunday morning. Eight sleepy eyed fishermen, with all of their gear, climbed on the council bus at 5.30am and headed up the Hume freeway to Tallarook turn off, then through to Yea. Stopped for a pie and sauce, then on through to Eildon pondage. We got there at 8.15am, where we met the 9th member. Sign on, and its down to the nitty gritty of competition. We decided to fish until 12.30pm. Douggie Bucko tries to impersonate a walrus, goes A over T and lands with a big splat on some rocks.
Bleeding profusely, he sits down on his chair and doesn’t get up until it’s time for the BBQ (at 1.00pm).
The rest of the members take their positions along the water’s edge at Bourke St and try to coax the fish out. We tried all methods, including fly fishing, spinning and bait fishing, all to no avail.
Time to change things up a bit. Rob decides the river could be a better option. He asks everyone if anyone is interested in coming down the river. "Na mate", comes the reply, "I’m comfortable here, not catching anything but hey you never know". Douggie is passed out (probably due to blood loss).
So bugger it, I’m off down the river and what do you know, 5 minutes later, I land the first brown trout. Dropped the next 3 hits and with 30 minutes until comp closes, I land the second brown trout.
Total weight of 1.2kg. Time to get back up to the pondage where the other members are. All smiles from my end until Ronnie comes up with “where the f#@k have you been? You got my beers in the bus, and it’s after 12.00 o’clock and I’m thirsty. Geez I wish I had known earlier, I would have hooked into em, was my reply.
No one else had caught a fish, which makes me the winner. They tried to disqualify me for fishing in the river, but I was the judge and my decision was final - I won!
Great day was had by all (I think) and a great location.
Thanks to Bee bop for organising a great BBQ.
